Description
March 1 @ 7pm Tickets start at $20* Kid under 18 $6* through the Box Office at 815.356.9212 WSR is partnering with Raue Center’s Mission Imagination to commission a new student show entitled, “Art in the Machine” by award-winning playwright Merri Biechler. Kris is an artist. She’s also a seventh grader trying to find her way among a group of science and technology students who seem to have it all figured out. When the students work together to solve a video game challenge, Kris discovers seeing the technical issues from a different viewpoint is vital to solving the problem. This play turns the core STEM educational elements of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math into STEAM by adding art. This theatrical play is high energy. Not only do the actors play multiple parts, they also create a video game on stage with the simplest of props, lights, and sound. The physical nature of the story encourages the student audience to imagine a world of technology infused with art. How do we use the arts to communicate context and meaning in an educational system focused on math scores? Our protagonist Kris discovers there are as many meaningful ways to think as there are people. Her unique outlook of colors and shapes adds dimension to math equations, just as structure adds to her ability to create art. The story celebrates the different ways we think and create. It honors science and art as equals in creating a whole student. *additional fees apply
