Understanding Metabolic Syndrome

"Metabolic syndrome" has become an increasingly common health concern in the the United States. It’s estimated that over 50 million Americans have Metabolic syndrome which is characterized by a group of metabolic risk factors in one person including abdominal obesity, elevated blood pressure and insulin resistance-among others. People with the metabolic syndrome are at increased risk of coronary heart disease and other related diseases like stroke, peripheral vascular disease and type 2 diabes. Michael Fortsas, M.D., from Palatine Heart Center, will discuss what this syndrome is and how to prevent it.
