Catherine Fischer is a Small Business Advisor and Accountant with Padgett Business Services, an accounting, bookkeeping and financial advising firm in Barrington. She helps her fellow small business owners handle everything from tax prep to payroll. Catherine is one of those rare people who genuinely loves accounting and tax. She is also one of those rare, approachable accountants who genuinely loves people!

Catherine obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 2014. From there she gained initial experience in a Schaumburg accounting practice, however, Catherine sought a firm with more structure. That’s when she met Dave Gribben, former CFO of a Fortune 500 company and owner of a local accounting and tax firm: Padgett Business Services.

Dave hired Catherine on the spot and has been her mentor ever since, grooming her to take the helm of the firm upon Dave’s retirement. The firm has grown exponentially, expanding to a cohesive team of 7. Catherine is currently studying to qualify as an enrolled agent (EA), the highest credential awarded by the US Department of Treasury. EAs may represent taxpayers before the IRS for tax issues including collections, audits and appeals. She plans to attain her CPA license next.

Catherine’s passion for what she does, helping small business owners to be as tax efficient and profitable as possible, is obvious. “It brings together the two things that I love: helping people and the world of tax, making things as simple as possible for people by putting tax code into human language.”

Catherine is married to Rick Fischer. They have a beautiful blended family with five children: Chloe (23), Emma (21), Ricky (18), Mary Catherine (3) and Margaret (11 months).
