Youth Services programmer (part-time)

Then consider applying for our Youth Services Programmer position at the Cary Area Public Library! We are looking for someone with a creative spark who will find engaging ways to share their interests and passions with the community through programming, outreach, and customer service interactions. An ideal candidate will be friendly, outgoing, creative, and a team player. Being able to provide patron assistance with and teach using computers and other devices is required.

Youth Services Programmers have a variety of responsibilities that help make our library a welcoming learning environment for community members. The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Leading Storytimes
  • Assisting with Preschool outreach
  • Developing, planning and executing educational programs for preschoolers and families
  • Assisting with reading programs and passive programming as assigned
  • Providing excellent customer service by answering patrons' questions in person and on the phone
  • Placing holds and checking materials out
  • Providing technology assistance
  • Accepting passport applications according to guidelines set by the Department of State

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, LTA certificate/certification, or equivalent in experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and orally
  • Provide courteous and friendly service to patrons and staff
  • Willingness to help the Library become a more inclusive environment for both staff and patrons
  • Knowledge of and interest in children's literature
  • Knowledge of early literacy principles and the ability to incorporate them into programming as appropriate
  • Previous experience working with young children is desirable
  • Conversational Spanish is desirable

Hours
This position will have a mix of daytime, evening, and weekend hours averaging 15 hours per week. All Youth Services employees are required to work one evening per week and one weekend per month.

Pay
$14.34 to $21.51 per hour, depending on qualifications
