The mission of the Cary Park District is to provide exceptional recreation, parks and open space opportunities. The Cary Park District is an Illinois Distinguished Accredited agency, a recipient of the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from GFOA and is governed by a 5 member elected board. 

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for assisting all Departments and staff with safety, risk management and compliance with local, state and federal laws. Will also assist with compliance of safety policies and procedures by agency staff and implement appropriate training plans per Department needs.  

This position requires an energetic and creative individual who possess outstanding communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Must have the ability to set own work tasks, weekly/monthly plans and work independently from direct supervision. Must be able to work varying hours to meet agency needs, maintain regular interactions with the public and perform the physical demands of the position. 

Job Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Communicate operation specifics and matters of importance to Deputy Director.
  • Strong knowledge of Department of Labor (DOL) and Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) guidelines and   practices, concepts and related compliance issues. 
  • Chair the Safety Committee with the purpose to review safety policies and procedures, analyze trends, identify safety hazards and create annual safety goals.  
  • Serve as the liaison with the agency’s risk management organization (PDRMA) on annual reviews, safety audits, trainings and other requirements/recommendations. 
  • Coordinate and/or conduct facility, park and playground inspections to proactively identify any unsafe conditions, hazards or practices.  
  • Create the annual safety budgets and purchase supplies in accordance with District policy and procedures. 
  • Utilize effective time management skills and be able to work under stress of multiple deadlines and requests across Departments.   
  • Attend professional educational training to remain informed of current trends and issues in related areas of responsibility.   
  • Attend Board, staff and other public meetings as required or requested.

Qualifications: 

Minimum requirements for this position is a high school diploma with a preference for an Associate’s Degree in Risk Management, Occupational Health & Safety or closely related field.  Also highly desired is 2-3 years direct work experience in safety, risk management or closely related field. Candidates may be evaluated on a combination of their education and work experience. 

A valid Illinois driver’s license will be required upon hire. Certification in CPR, AED and First Aid within six months of employment; Instructor level preferred (or obtain within one year of employment).

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged and confidential information.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite.

Requirements

Hours: 50 hours per 14 day pay period, flexible days and hours to meet needs of agency & position.
