Mercyhealth welcomes general surgeon

ROCKFORD and CRYSTAL LAKE, Illinois—Mercyhealth is pleased to welcome Phyllis Nápoles,
MD, board certified general surgeon, to Mercyhealth Physician Clinic–Riverside in Rockford and
Mercyhealth Hospital and Physician Clinic–Crystal Lake.
Dr. Nápoles believes in taking care of more than just patients’ physical needs. “I consider a holistic
approach to patient care,” she said. “I attempt to integrate their physical needs with other components
including mental, social and other individual needs into their care.”
After earning her medical degree at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois, Dr.
Nápoles served a general surgery residency at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago. She
then attended an abdominal transplant and hepatobiliary fellowship at the University of California, San
Diego, and completed a surgical critical care fellowship at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook
County, Chicago. Dr. Nápoles is certified by the American Board of Surgery with added qualifications
in Surgical Critical Care.
