Spartan Mixed Martial Arts Unveils New Name, Expanded Programs and Community Partnerships

CARY, IL – October 7, 2026 – Spartan Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) hosted a celebration on Wednesday, October 7, to commemorate an exciting new chapter for the Cary-based gym. Formerly known as Spartan Boxing & Fitness, the business hosted a Rebrand & Announcement Event to unveil its new name, highlight its expanding programs, and recognize new partnerships that will bring additional fitness and martial arts opportunities to the community. The Cary-Grove Area Chamber of Commerce was on hand to host a ribbon cutting during the event.

Located at 760 Industrial Dr., Unit A, in Cary, Spartan MMA is owned by Angelo Douros, who has continued to grow the gym's offerings beyond traditional boxing and fitness. The new name better reflects the variety of disciplines now available, including boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing, Muay Thai, grappling, and wrestling.

"This name change is really about reflecting who we've become and where we're headed," said Angelo Douros, owner of Spartan MMA. "Boxing will always be an important part of what we do, but we've grown into so much more. Our goal is to create a place where people of all ages and skill levels can train, build confidence, and challenge themselves. We're also focused on building strong relationships throughout the community, because we believe working together creates more opportunities for everyone. This is just the beginning of what we have planned."

A major highlight of the celebration was the announcement of new partnerships with Sage YMCA in Crystal Lake and the Cary-Grove Trojans Wrestling Club. These collaborations demonstrate Douros' commitment to working with other local organizations to expand access to martial arts training, fitness programs, and athletic development.

The October 7 celebration also recognized Spartan MMA as a 2026 Papa John's/WBC Cares Community Champion Honoree, acknowledging the gym's commitment to making a positive difference beyond its training programs. Guests had the opportunity to meet former professional heavyweight champion boxer, Fres Oquendo, and view his World Boxing Council (WBC) championship belt.
