Adult Services Associate (part-time)

The Cary Area Public Library seeks a personable and detail-oriented self-starter to be an Adult Services Associate. This part-time position would select and manage materials in our collection and provide excellent customer service and account assistance to our library patrons through shifts at the Service Desk. An ideal candidate will be friendly, efficient, outgoing, and a team player. Being able to provide patron assistance with computers and other devices is required.

The Adult Services Associate has a variety of responsibilities that help make our library a source of entertainment, information, and learning for our community members.

 

The primary responsibilities of this position include:
 
  • Performing collection development in assigned area(s) of the collection.
  • Providing excellent customer service by answering patrons' questions in person and on the phone.
  • Placing holds and checking materials out.
  • Providing technology assistance.
  • Acting as Person-in-Charge as assigned.
  • Accepting passport applications according to guidelines set by the Department of State.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or LTA certification with a minimum of two (2) years of patron-facing library experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work pleasantly and effectively with the public and staff.
  • Assist in promoting a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with library policies and procedures and be able to make decisions in accordance with them.
  • Observe opening and closing procedures as required.
  • Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for patrons and staff.

Hours:  This year-round position will have a mixture of daytime, evening, and weekend hours, averaging 15 hours per week. This position requires the staff member to work one evening per week and one weekend per month.

Salary: $17.49 - $23.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.
